History
Higashi-Ōme Station opened on 1 October 1932 as a stop on the privately built Ōme Electric Railway, with passenger traffic only. When the operator was designated for wartime nationalisation on 1 April 1944, the station passed to the Ministry of Transport and Communications and was redesignated a station of the Ōme Line, with parcel handling added. A new overhead station building was completed on 5 March 1964, and the platforms were lengthened in 1982 to accept 10-car trains. The station became part of JR East at privatisation on 1 April 1987. On 14 May 2023 the layout was rebuilt from an island platform serving two tracks into a single platform on one bidirectional track, as part of the platform-lengthening work for 12-car Green Car services on the Chūō and Ōme Lines.
Notes
Higashi-Ōme is the nearest station to Ōme city hall and the city's other public facilities, which makes it in practice the principal station of Ōme.
