History
Higashi-Mori Station first opened on 25 December 1927 as a provisional stop when the Oshima Seaside Railway's section from here to Sawara opened, but was abolished on 13 September 1928 when the line was extended west to Mori Station. The station was reopened on 1 July 1934 at a new location toward Ōnuma as an Oshima Seaside Railway general station. Following the line's nationalisation on 25 January 1945 it became a station on the state railway's Hakodate Main Line, passing to JNR in 1949. Freight handling ended in 1965, the station was destaffed in 1971, and the present reinforced-concrete building dates from 30 March 1979.
Notes
The station's distinctive depot has a near-triangular front profile with a red roof that runs all the way down to ground level — an unusual silhouette for a JR Hokkaido suburban stop.
