History

Higashi-Kiyokawa Station opened on 2 October 1978 as a temporary halt on the Japanese National Railways' Kururi Line, in Sasago, Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture. It was an unstaffed stop from the outset. It passed to JR East at the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and was simultaneously upgraded from a temporary halt to a full station. It was incorporated into the Tokyo metropolitan area fare zone on 14 March 2009. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, and the platform can accommodate trains of up to five cars. It is an unstaffed station managed by Kururi Station, equipped with a boarding-certificate issuing machine, a concrete waiting room, and separate flush toilets for men and women. The area around the station is largely farmland, with residential areas dotted along National Route 409.
