History
Higashi-Kanazawa Station began life on 1 August 1925 as the Kosaka signal station between Kanazawa and Morimoto on the state-owned Hokuriku Main Line. It was upgraded to a station on 1 August 1933, taking the name Higashi-Kanazawa and opening as a general station. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1974, leaving it a passenger-only station, and it passed to JR West at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. On 21 October 2002, to make space for Hokuriku Shinkansen construction, the station was moved about 200 m to the north and rebuilt with an overhead (bridge-type) station building. JR Freight's Kanazawa Freight Terminal opened on 12 June 2003. With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Kanazawa on 14 March 2015, the station was transferred to IR Ishikawa Railway, and on 16 March 2024 it became unstaffed at all hours.
Notes
From 11 March 1989 until 15 March 1991 a check-out service using the Kanazawa-bound sleeper limited express Hokuriku was operated at Higashi-Kanazawa Station.
