History

Higashi-Kanai Station is a station on the Aterazawa Line, opened on 25 December 1951, located at Ōaza Jinba, Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. It became a JR East station at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987. Its waiting room and toilet were rebuilt on 16 March 2003, and the Suica IC card came into use there on 16 March 2024. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track, operated as an unstaffed station under the management of Sagae Station, and is equipped with a simplified Suica ticket gate.

Notes

The station has only a single side platform serving one track and so trains cannot pass one another here — a simple layout typical of the Aterazawa Line.
