History
Higashi-Jūjō Station opened on 1 August 1931 as Shimo-Jūjō Station, some three years after the Keihin Line had been extended through to Akabane. Local petitions for a stop dated to October 1927, and construction began in December 1930. The station was renamed Higashi-Jūjō on 1 April 1957 to match the name of the neighbourhood in which it stands, and parcel-handling was discontinued in October 1966. At JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East. Suica acceptance began on 18 November 2001, and station number JK 37 was assigned with the introduction of network numbering. Smart platform-edge doors entered service on tracks 1 and 4 in November 2020, and the South Entrance went uncrewed under the remote-support system from 14 October 2023.
Notes
The name Shimo-Jūjō Unten-ku (Shimo-Jūjō Operating District) survives as a relic of the station's original name, which it carried until the 1957 renaming to Higashi-Jūjō.
