History

Hie Station opened on 27 December 1924 as a passenger and freight station on the private Bantan Railway, when the section connecting Nomura (today's Nishiwakishi) with Tanikawa opened. The Bantan Railway was nationalised on 1 June 1943 and the station became part of the state railways' Kakogawa Line. Freight handling was discontinued on 1 March 1962 and parcel handling on 1 October 1973, when the station was destaffed save for a one-year period with a single daytime attendant. JR West took over at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. In November 2019 barrier-free work began, demolishing the station building and installing a ramp; the station was originally a crossing point with opposed platforms, and an old Somei-Yoshino cherry planted at its opening still stands beside the now-disused platform opposite.
