History

Hayahoshi Station was established as a passenger and freight station on 1 September 1927, when the Railway Ministry's Hietsu Line (now the Takayama Main Line) opened between Toyama and Etchū-Yatsuo stations. It became a station of the Takayama Main Line when the Hietsu Line was absorbed into it on 25 October 1934. In 1953 Toyama Chihō Railway obtained a tramway-construction license for a line reaching the station's front, but this was surrendered in 1968. In February 1984 the station became limited to wagon-load freight handling only, and with the 1987 division and privatization of the national railway in April it became a station of JR West and JR Freight. A Midori no Madoguchi ticket office was opened on 10 July 1992, and the station became a business-consignment station in April 2011.

Notes

Hayahoshi is the only station on the Takayama Line that still handles freight traffic, serving a dedicated siding to a Nissan Chemical plant.
