History
Hayadōri Station opened on 11 February 1957 on Japanese National Railways' Hakushin Line, originally sited about 200 metres further toward Niizaki and equipped with a 60-metre platform serving passenger traffic only as an unstaffed halt. The station was relocated to its present site on 1 October 1970 to better serve a newly built prefectural housing estate, with the platform extended to 90 metres. A further 40-metre extension in March 1986 made it possible to accommodate six-car trains. The station passed to JR East with the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987, gained automated ticket gates in March 2005, and accepted Suica from 21 January 2006.
Notes
When the automated ticket gates were installed in 2005 the footbridge briefly stopped serving as a free passage between the north and south sides of the tracks; complaints from residents led JR East to split the gates by platform on 26 December 2005 and restore the footbridge as a free passage.
