History
Hatsukari Station opened on 9 July 1908 as Hatsukari Signal Station on the government railway. It was upgraded to a station and opened as Hatsukari Station, a general-service station, on 10 February 1910. It was rebuilt as the current station building in October 1951. On 1 October 1968, the passenger platform was moved onto the main line as part of double-tracking; parcel handling ended on 1 October 1970, and freight handling, except for traffic to and from private sidings, ended on 1 April 1972. It became unstaffed on 26 May 1984, and passed to JR East and JR Freight with the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. Wagon-load freight handling to and from private sidings ended on 16 March 1996; Suica became usable and the station was incorporated into the Tokyo metropolitan area fare zone on 16 October 2004, and it became unstaffed again on 1 April 2015.
Notes
A switchback structure remains, originally used for ballast traffic to and from the private siding serving the nearby Kōshū Saiseki Ōtsuki depot, but buffer stops and train-stop signs are now installed and the related signals have been taken out of service — the facility still physically exists but no longer functions.
