History

Haranoya Station, at Hongō, Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture, opened as a general station on 17 April 1935, when the Ministry of Railways' Futamata Line opened between Kakegawa and Tōtōmi-Mori (now Enshū-Mori) stations. Freight handling ended on 21 August 1962, leaving it a passenger-only station, and it became a station on the Tenryū Hamanako Line of the Tenryū Hamanako Railway when the Futamata Line was transferred to third-sector operation on 15 March 1987. It was unstaffed on 1 November 2009, and its wooden main station building was registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property on 26 January 2011. It is a ground-level station with two opposed platforms serving two tracks.

Notes

In the summer of 2004, the station served as a filming location for the television drama Water Boys 2, appearing as the fictional "Himeno Station."
