Location

History

Haraichi Station opened on 22 December 1983 with the start of the Saitama New Urban Transit Ina Line (New Shuttle) and carries station code NS07. It sits in Goban-chō, Ageo City, Saitama, with part of the precinct extending into Ōaza Haraichi. It is an elevated station with two side platforms and two tracks, arranged on either side of the elevated Tōhoku and Jōetsu Shinkansen viaduct, with the ticket gates at the Uchijuku end. The Suica IC card became usable on 18 March 2007, and on 28 March 2014 the city of Ageo installed two lifts. The historic core of the Haraichi locality lies closer to the neighbouring Shōnan Station; this station serves a newer development area along the bypass of Saitama Prefectural Route 5 (the Saitama–Shōbu Line), which opened on the north side of the station in 2007.

Notes

Haraichi's two side platforms sit on either side of the Tōhoku and Jōetsu Shinkansen viaduct, a reminder of why the line exists at all: the New Shuttle was planned to placate residents of Ina, who had objected to the Shinkansen being routed through their town, and an automated guideway line was chosen for the corridor north of Ōmiya because potential demand there was too small for a conventional railway. Midway between Haraichi and the neighbouring Yoshinohara Station, a day-spa (super sentō) opened in 2008 within easy reach of the line.
