History
Hanaizumi Station opened on 16 April 1890 on what is now the Tōhoku Main Line in present-day Ichinoseki, Iwate Prefecture. Freight handling ended on 15 November 1982 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. It transferred to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways, and operations were contracted out from 1 October 2003. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 19 May 2015, and the station became fully unattended on 12 March 2022. Before the Tōhoku Shinkansen opened in 1982 the station was a stop for express services that connected with bus routes coming in from neighbouring Fujisawa via the Kitakami River bridge.
