History

Hamamura Station opened on 28 April 1907 as a station handling both passengers and freight, with the government railway's extension between Tottori Provisional Station and Aoya Station. It was placed on the San'in Main Line under the line-naming system established on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended in 1970 and parcel handling in 1985. It was transferred to JR West on 1 April 1987, and became unstaffed on 14 March 2020. The IC card ICOCA became usable from 15 March 2025. It is a ground-level station with opposed side platforms serving two tracks: platform 1, on the station-building side, serves as the up-and-down main line, while platform 2, connected by an overpass, serves as a secondary track; the wooden station building remains.

Notes

At opening, the station's location was actually Katsumi, Shōjō village, Keta District, not Hamamura, but the village mayor at the time, Tanaka Naoji, was from Hamamura and is said to have consulted with railway officials to have the station named Hamamura.
