History
Hakushima Station opened on 20 August 1994, to coincide with the opening of the Hiroshima Rapid Transit Hiroshima New Transit Line 1 (Astram Line). It is located in Hakushima-kitamachi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, and near the adjacent Shin-Hakushima Station the line transitions from elevated to underground. When express trains were newly introduced in the timetable revision of 20 March 1999, the station was initially treated as a train-passing (non-stop) station, but with the abolition of the express service in the revision of 20 March 2004, all trains began stopping there again for the first time in five years. It became a contracted-operation station in 2001, and PASPY was introduced on 8 August 2009. In 2015 the on-site announcement system and platform departure indicators were upgraded to equipment equivalent to that at Shin-Hakushima Station. It is an elevated station with one island platform and two tracks, and its station color is yellow-green.
Notes
Hakushima on the Astram Line is about a kilometre from the identically named Hakushima tram stop, the terminus of Hiroshima Electric Railway's Hakushima Line; the two are not directly connected.
