History

Hakone-Itabashi Station opened on 1 October 1935 when the Hakone Tozan Railway, founded in 1928, converted its Odawara-to-Hakone-Yumoto tram line into a full railway. The Odawara city tram line that had connected at the station was discontinued on 1 June 1956. From 18 March 2006 standard-gauge Hakone Tozan Railway rolling stock stopped using the station, and the short side platform that had been reserved for that standard-gauge stock has been closed ever since. PASMO was introduced on 18 March 2007, station numbering OH48 in January 2014, a new station building opened on 30 September 2018, and operation transferred to Odakyu Hakone on 1 April 2024.

Notes

Despite the "Hakone" prefix, the station sits well within the built-up area of Odawara city, about a kilometre by road from the Tōkaidō Main Line's Hayakawa Station.
