Location

History

Hakodate-dokku-mae Stop (D23) is on the Hakodate City Tram Honsen (Main) Line in Irifune-chō, Hakodate, Hokkaidō — the westernmost stop in Hakodate and indeed in Hokkaidō. It opened on 30 October 1913 as Bentenmachi Stop, was renamed Benten at some unrecorded date, became Hakodate Dock-mae Stop on 1 July 1965, and on 1 November 1985 took its present name, Hakodate-dokku-mae, respelled in the shipbuilder's own kana form どつく though still read dokku. The shelter on the boarding platform mounts a clock on its Ōmachi side, with a presentation plate behind it commemorating a donation of 1 December 1997.

Notes

The 'tsu' in the stop's kana spelling どつく is written full-size, yet the name is read with a doubled consonant — Hakodate-dokku-mae. The stop was originally called Hakodate Dock-mae; when Hakodate Dock came under the Ehime-based Kurushima Group in 1984 and changed its registered company name to the どつく spelling, the stop name followed suit.
