Location

History

Hachiman Station was established on 27 April 1928 as a temporary station, "Mayu Ichiba-mae" (in front of the cocoon market), serving the Hamamatsu Cocoon Market. It was initially limited to the period of the Chūbu Six-Prefecture Textile Exhibition, but was upgraded to a permanent station on 16 December 1929 at residents' request. After the cocoon market closed and Yamaha's head office was built on the site, the station was renamed "Enshū-Hachiman" on 1 August 1951. It was renamed to its current name, Hachiman, on 1 December 1985, at the same time the line was elevated there. It was unstaffed during early morning and late night hours from 1984, and became unstaffed all day on 24 November 2012, when the elevated section was extended to Kamijima Station. Its station number is ET04.

Notes

When the station was still at ground level, a dedicated line branched off to the adjacent Yamaha head-office factory and was used to transport pianos, organs, and other products shipped from the factory.
