History
Gyokukeijimae Station opened on 13 July 1987 as a station of the Shigaraki Kōgen Railway's Shigaraki Line. It is an unstaffed, at-grade station with a single side platform serving one track, located at Chokushi, Shigaraki-chō, Kōka City, Shiga Prefecture, and is the only station on the Shigaraki Line with neither a station building nor a public restroom. Between March and April 2022, a crowdfunding campaign raised 2 million yen from 87 contributors toward refurbishing the waiting shelter, and on 29 May of that year the station was renewed with wrapping recreating the atmosphere of the Shōwa 30s and 40s (1955–1974), the era in which the NHK serial morning drama "Scarlet" was set, along with steel support columns repainted brown and replicas of old-style electric lamps.
Notes
Two Shigaraki-ware raccoon-dog (tanuki) figurines are placed on the platform, and the waiting area even has a sign for a barbershop that does not actually exist.
