History
Gunchū Station opened on 4 July 1896 as the terminus of the South Iyo Railway. It became an Iyo Railway station on 1 May 1900 when South Iyo merged into Iyotetsu, and ceased to be a terminus on 10 May 1939 when the extension to Gunchū-kō (Gunchū Port) opened. The station consists of a single side platform serving one track and remains staffed.
Notes
A district office and a town office once stood immediately around Gunchū Station; their former sites have been reused as parking, while a shopping street still runs from the station front westward.
