History

Goyu Station opened on 1 April 1926 as "Hon-Goyu Station" of the Aichi Electric Railway (present-day Nagoya Railroad). The town of Goyu flourished as Goyu-juku, one of the fifty-three post stations of the Tōkaidō, but because the present-day Aichi-Mito Station bore the name "Goyu Station" from 1888 to 1948, this station was called Hon-Goyu Station. It was renamed to its present name, Goyu Station, on 1 March 1949, in step with the other station's renaming to Aichi-Mito. Freight service ended in May 1961, and the station became unstaffed in March 1967. A centralized station management system, with Kō Station as the managing station, was introduced in December 2005, and the "manaca" IC card came into use in February 2011.
