History

Goshogawara Station opened on 25 September 1918 as the terminus of the Mutsu Railway from Kawabe. JNR's Goshogawara Line extended from the station in 1924, and Mutsu Railway was nationalised into that line on 1 June 1927. The Tsugaru Railway began operations from a shared building on 15 July 1930. The Tsugaru Railway side was officially renamed Tsugaru-Goshogawara on 10 July 1956. Freight ended in 1984, parcels in 1985, and JR East took over the JNR side at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. The JR East exterior was rebuilt in a brick style and reopened on 1 August 2013. A Midori no Madoguchi window operated until 30 June 2021, replaced by a staffed-remote ticket machine.

Notes

Goshogawara was added to the Tōhoku Station Hundred Selection in 2002 as the gateway to the Tsugaru Peninsula, marked by its giant Tachineputa floats.
