History

Goryōmae Station (HN25) is a Hankai Tramway Hankai Line tram stop in Sakai-ku, Sakai. It was opened by the Hankai Electric Tramway on 5 March 1912 as Shōrinjibashi Station. It was renamed Goryōmae around 1925, in reference to its proximity to the Nintoku-tennō mausoleum. Successive operator changes followed — Nankai Railway in June 1915, Kinki Nippon Railway in June 1944, Nankai Electric Railway in June 1947, and the present Hankai Tramway in December 1980. The platforms were moved 41 m north to the present site in 1991.

Notes

Goryōmae opened in 1912 as Shōrinjibashi Station (少林寺橋停留場), named for the Shōrinji Bridge, which still crosses the Doi River just beyond the Hamadera-ekimae end of the stop; it was only renamed Goryōmae around 1925, after the nearby Nintoku-tennō kofun.
