History

Goryō Station opened on 31 October 1963 in the Goryō district of Eichō, in present-day Minamikyūshū, on the day the JNR Ibusuki Line was extended south from Nishi-Ei to Makurazaki and renamed the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line. It was unstaffed from the start and handled passengers only, and it has never received a station building. The track and platform sit in a narrow cutting, with the western end of the platform leading directly into Goryō Tunnel. At privatisation on 1 April 1987 the stop transferred to JR Kyushu, and it remains an unstaffed single-platform station today.
