History

Gongemmae Station opened on 25 August 1929 as the terminus of the newly opened Matsusaka–Gongemmae section of the Japanese Government Railways Meishō Line, serving what is now the city of Matsusaka in Mie Prefecture. The line was extended onward to Iseki on 30 March 1930, making Gongemmae an intermediate station. Freight and parcel handling were withdrawn on 1 April 1963, and with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central). The unattended station has a single side platform and no station building, only a rain shelter built directly on the platform, and is administered from Matsusaka Station.
