History
Gion Station opened on 22 March 1983 on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line. An elevator was brought into use on 27 March 2000, and on 1 April 2017 the station became a contracted-operation station under the management of Hakata Station. On 14 February 2022 it was given the sub-name "Hakata Old Town" (博多旧市街口) in recognition of its location near Kushida Shrine and the historic Hakata district. The station is coded K10 and has an island platform served by two tracks beneath Daihaku-dōri.
Notes
Gion is the least-used station on the Airport Line — its 7,307 daily boardings in fiscal 2024 were the lowest of any station on the line.
