History
Genjii no Mori Station opened on 21 July 1995 as a station on the Heisei Chikuho Railway's Tagawa Line, at Ōaza Aka, Aka, Tagawa District, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is a ground-level, unstaffed station with a single side platform serving one track, has no station building, and connects directly to the road in front of it. The station's name comes from the nearby nature park "Genjii no Mori" ("Genjii's Forest"), whose name combines "Gen" from the Genji firefly (genji-botaru) found in the area, "jii" from "jiibaba," the local dialect name for the shunran orchid that is the village flower of Aka, and "mori" ("forest"), since forest covers seventy percent of Aka.
Notes
The station's name combines three local references: "Gen" from the Genji fireflies seen in the area, "jii" from "jiibaba," the dialect name for Aka Village's village flower (the shunran orchid), and "mori" (forest), reflecting the woodland that covers about 70 per cent of Aka Village — the etymology of the adjacent Genjii-no-Mori nature park from which the station takes its name.
