History
Gaku Station opened on 23 December 1899 as a station on the Tokushima Railway's Tokushima Main Line. The Tokushima Railway was nationalized on 1 September 1907; the station was subsequently changed from directly operated to contracted operation on 1 February 1983, and temporarily became unstaffed on 1 February 1985. It became a station of Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku) at the 1 April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways, and was restaffed with two station staff in March 1988, but became unstaffed again on 1 September 2010. On 10 March 2022 the automatic ticket vending machine was also removed. Its station number is B12.
Notes
Hard-paper platform tickets bear the character 入 above the station name 学, reading vertically as 入学 ("entering school"); they have been a favourite charm for exam-takers, and crossed 1,000,000 sold on 4 August 1980.
