History
Futomi Station opened on 25 July 1924 in Futomi, Kamogawa, Chiba Prefecture. Freight handling ended in 1971, and parcel handling ended in June of the same year; the station became unstaffed on 1 March 1985. It became a station of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) with the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and the "Suica" IC card became usable on 14 March 2009, when the station was also incorporated into the Tokyo metropolitan fare zone. On 1 July 2019, ticket sales consigned to Kamogawa City also ended, and the station became unstaffed all day. Reconstruction of the aging wooden station building began in March 2022, and the new station building entered use on 14 December of the same year.
Notes
The benches in the new station building were made by students using a concrete 3D printer as a coursework assignment in the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Engineering.
