History

Fusō Station opened on 6 August 1912 as Takao Station with the opening of the Inuyama Line, was renamed Shimono on 27 March 1913 (the place name Shimono survives in Fusō town today, just as Ueno survives in Inuyama near Kotsuyōsui Station), and took the present name Fusō on 1 February 1948. Freight handling ended in fiscal 1962. The up-line platform was extended to eight cars in 1976 and the down-line in 1978; a footbridge was added on 31 March 1978, automatic ticket gates in May 1987 and passing tracks in both directions in March 1995, while SF Panorama Card and Yurica tickets became usable on 15 February 2004. From the 29 January 2005 revision Fusō became a semi-express stop, and from the 27 December 2008 revision a rapid-express and an express stop. manaca began service on 11 February 2011 and Tranpass ended on 29 February 2012. Elevators were installed in March 2015, platform improvements were completed on 15 March 2019, and the station became completely unstaffed on 12 April 2025.

Notes

The town name "Fusō" derives from a sacred tree in ancient China said to be where the sun rises, though the name itself was actually adopted because the town once prospered from sericulture; the celestial-globe-shaped monument "Sun Flower" in front of the station takes both of these as its motif.
