Location

History

Furuichi Station is an elevated Hiroshima Rapid Transit Astram Line station in Nakasu, Asaminami-ku, Hiroshima, that opened on 20 August 1994. During construction it was provisionally called Nakasu Station, and small parenthetical text under the station name sign still reads "Nakasu," though timetables and announcements use only "Furuichi." A schedule revision on 20 March 1999 introduced express trains that bypassed the station; a revision on 20 March 2004 abolished express service, restoring stops by all trains after five years. The station adopted contracted staffing in 2001 and PASPY fare cards in 2009. It has one elevated island platform with ticket gates one floor below, and today serves all Astram Line trains running between Nakasuji and Ōmachi stations.

Notes

Although timetables and onboard announcements identify the station only as Furuichi, its construction-era working name, Nakasu, still appears in small print on the platform signage and persists as a colloquial nickname.
