History
Funao is a tram stop, station number HN29, on the Hankai Electric Tramway's Hankai Line in Nishi-ku, Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. Hankai Electric Tramway opened the stop on 1 April 1912. Ownership changed repeatedly: Nankai Railway from 21 June 1915, Kinki Nippon Railway (Kintetsu) after a 1 June 1944 merger, Nankai Electric Railway from 1 June 1947, and back to Hankai Electric Tramway, the current operator, on 1 December 1980. The stop sits at grade on a dedicated track, with staggered side platforms flanking a level crossing. Nankai Main Line's Suwanomori Station stands nearby, along with a shopping street, elementary and junior-high schools, a nursing school, a shopping complex, and a church.
Notes
A now-vanished stop called Kaidōbata once stood between Funao and Hamadera-ekimae until 1944, doubling as a transfer point with the separate Hankai Electric Railway line that later became Osaka's municipal Hankai tram line.
