History
Fukuokakūkō (Fukuoka Airport) Station opened on 3 March 1993 as the eastern terminus of the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, completing the line's extension from Hakata Station to the airport. It lies beneath Fukuoka Airport's domestic passenger terminal, an arrangement that makes it the only subway station in Japan to connect directly to an airport. Routine operation was transferred from direct staffing to a contracted operator on 1 April 2018, and on 28 March 2019 a second ticket gate — the west gate serving the domestic passenger terminal — was brought into use opposite the original east gate for the international-terminal shuttle bus. The station carries the line code K13.
Notes
Fukuokakūkō is the only subway station in Japan that directly serves an airport terminal — the Tokyo and Narita airport links use private railways via through-running rather than the subway itself.
