History

Fukui-jōshi Daimyōmachi Station (F21) is a Fukui Railway Fukubu Line tram stop in Ōte, Fukui City, where the branch line to the Fukui Station stop diverges. Daimyōmachi Station opened here on 15 October 1933, when the Fukubu Electric Railway opened the section from Fukui-shin (today Sekijūji-mae) to Fukui-eki-mae (today the Fukui Station stop). On 27 November 1950 Daimyōmachi was renamed Honmachi-dōri and the newly opened Shiyakusho-mae took over the junction towards Fukui-eki-mae; Honmachi-dōri was abolished on 15 July 2002. A rebuilt stop entered service on 11 December 2017 under a renewal project that also changed the platform layout and operating method, and on 24 March 2018 Shiyakusho-mae was renamed Fukui-jōshi Daimyōmachi, the intention being that the name would identify it as the gateway to the Fukui Castle ruins.

Notes

On 8 November 2019 the stop hosted a trial of IC card payment using "JURACA", an electronic-money card issued and operated by Fukui Bank and the Fukui Shimbun newspaper company; the demonstration ran until 20 November 2019.
