History

Fukaya Hanazono Station opened on 20 October 2018 as a station of the Chichibu Railway Chichibu Main Line. It is a petition station built as part of the Hanazono IC Base Development Project, an industrial hub planned by Fukaya City near the Hanazono interchange of the Kan-etsu Expressway; the city bore the entire construction cost of roughly ¥400 million, with the aims of improving convenience for local residents and securing transport access to the Fukaya Hanazono Premium Outlets. The station name combines Fukaya City's "Fukaya" with the local place name "Hanazono." The PASMO IC card became usable there on 12 March 2022, and the timetable revision of 1 October that year made it a stop for the SL Paleo Express and Chichibuji trains. It is a ground-level station with a single platform serving one track, its usable length of 110 meters being sufficient for the Paleo Express to stop.

Notes

The planned outlet mall site was designated prime farmland on which commercial facilities could not normally be built, and construction of the new station was a precondition for having the farmland-use restriction lifted. Some residents opposed to the use of tax funds collected signatures calling for a referendum on whether to build the station and mall, but the city council rejected the proposal.
