History
Fujita Station opened on 5 September 1900 on the Tōhoku Main Line in what is today the town of Kunimi in Fukushima Prefecture. Freight handling ended in 1974 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station was absorbed into JR East at the breakup of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 and accepted Suica from 14 March 2009. The original 1934-built station building was replaced in stages — a temporary building took over at the end of September 2018, and a new single-storey steel-framed station building entered service on 10 March 2019. The Midori-no-Madoguchi staffed ticket office closed on 31 October 2022. The station has a side platform and an island platform, with three tracks in total.
Notes
The station building replaced in 2019 had been in service since 1934, and its age and deterioration were the reason it was rebuilt.
