Location

History

Fuchū Station is one of only two stops on the Amanohashidate Cable Car, a 0.4 km funicular in Miyazu, Kyōto Prefecture that overcomes a height difference of 130 m. Cable service between the pair began on 13 August 1927, forming part of a pilgrims' route towards Nariai-ji temple. It was shut on 11 February 1944, judged non-essential in wartime, and traffic resumed on 12 August 1951 under Tango Kairiku Kotsu, a bus and shipping operator whose only cable line this is. Cars leave every 15 minutes and the ride lasts 4 minutes. Track inside the station is graded at just 78‰, so the platform has no steps and passengers board on the sloping surface.

Notes

The cars working the line carry bodies built in 1975, and at 7.95 m those bodies count among the shortest on the passenger vehicles of any Japanese cable railway.
