History
Enshū-Gansuiji Station opened on 6 December 1909 as Gansuiji Station, named for the nearby Gansui-ji temple (a bekkaku honzan of Kōyasan, whose precinct entrance then stood about one kilometre south of its present position). It was renamed Enshū-Gansuiji on 1 April 1923, became unattended around September 1974, and on 17 October 2012 platform-improvement works including ramps, platform-height adjustment, and a new east-side entrance were completed. Its log-house-style wooden station building, built because the station is the nearest one to the prefectural natural park, was certified in 2002 in the fourth round of the Chubu District Transport Bureau's "100 Selected Stations of Chubu".
Notes
Although the station name includes the prefix "Enshū" (an old name for Tōtōmi Province), train PA announcements drop the prefix and call the stop simply "Gansuiji Station". The nearby Tenryū-Hamanako Line has a separate station also named Gansuiji that is geographically closer to Gansui-ji temple but is not a transfer station with this one.
