History

Ekiya Station was established on 21 July 1914, when the Ryōbi Light Railway, predecessor of the Fukuen Line, opened. The Ryōbi Light Railway was renamed the Ryōbi Railway on 26 June 1926, and on 1 September 1933 the Ryōbi Railway's section between Ryōbi-Fukuyama and Fuchū-machi was nationalised, making it a station of the Ministry of Railways' Fukuen Line. The station building was rebuilt in February 1934. It became a station of JR West with the division and privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987.
