History
Echizen-Takefu Station is a standalone Hokuriku Shinkansen station of West Japan Railway Company (JR West) located in Ōya-chō, Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, which opened on 16 March 2024 with the extension of the line between Kanazawa and Tsuruga stations. It stands about 3 km east-northeast of Takefu Station on the Hokuriku Main Line (now the Hapi-Line Fukui Line), on the south side of the Takefu Interchange of the Hokuriku Expressway. Its provisional name was "Nan'etsu Station"; after candidate selection and public solicitation in May 2020 and a JR West announcement on 13 May 2021, the name "Echizen-Takefu Station" was decided. It became the first station whose name includes hiragana on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, and thus the first among Shinkansen stations across JR West's network as a whole. Construction of the main station building began on 9 November 2020; on 18 March 2023 surrounding facilities such as the station-front roundabout and the roadside station Michi-no-Eki Echizen-Takefu opened ahead of it, and the Shinkansen station itself opened in 2024. It is an elevated station with two side platforms serving two tracks plus two through tracks, and it is served by all "Hakutaka" trains, the all-stops type of "Tsurugi" services, and some "Kagayaki" trains.
Notes
At opening, its 49 scheduled regular train stops per day were the second-most among standalone Shinkansen stations, after Shin-Fuji Station on the Tōkaidō Shinkansen (72 stops), under the timetable revised the same day.
