History
Echizen-Kaihotsu Station opened on 20 August 1932 as Kaihotsu Station on the Kyoto Dentō Echizen Electric Railway's line between Fukuiguchi Station and Echizen-Shinbo Station. It became a station of that company's Echizen Line (later the Echizen Main Line) with the formation of the Keifuku Electric Railroad in March 1942, and was renamed Echizen-Kaihotsu Station on 1 August 1951. Station operations were contracted out from July 1970. The station closed when the entire line was suspended following the head-on collision on the Echizen Main Line in June 2001, but after the facilities were transferred in February 2003 it reopened as an Echizen Railway station on 20 July that year. With the singling of the track between Fukuiguchi and this station on 27 September 2015, the platform arrangement was also changed from one island platform serving two tracks to a single side platform serving one track. Its station number is E4, and it lies toward the Fukuiguchi end of the line.
Notes
The prefix "Echizen" was added at the 1951 renaming so that the station's original name, Kaihotsu Station, would not be confused with a same-named station on another line; Keifuku-group lines carried out a batch of renamings adding the "Echizen" prefix around this time.
