History

Echigo-Tazawa Station opened on 6 November 1927 as a stop on the Iiyama Line in what is now Tōkamachi, Niigata. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it came under the control of JR East. A new station building was completed in 2001. Today it remains an unstaffed halt with a single side platform serving one bi-directional track, in a rural setting.
