History

Echigo-Hirose Station opened on 1 November 1942 as an intermediate stop on the initial western segment of the Tadami Line between Koide and Ōshirakawa, then operated by the Japanese Government Railways. Freight handling ended in 1976, the station was downgraded to a contracted operation in 1977, parcel handling ended in 1984, and the station was made unstaffed in 1985. With the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR East. The station now consists of a single side platform serving one bidirectional track; an earlier passing siding has been removed, and the modest station building functions as a waiting room only.

Notes

The station appeared in the opening scene of the 1971 film "Otoko wa Tsurai yo: Funtō-hen".
