History

Ebino Uwae Station opened on 5 July 1957 as Uwae Station, added by Japanese National Railways as an additional stop on the existing Kitto Line track 48.6 km from Miyakonojō. It has no station building; a simple shed at the station entrance serves as the waiting area, with a ramp leading up to the single side platform. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, the station came under JR Kyushu's control. On 1 November 1990 Uwae was renamed Ebino Uwae. The station remains unstaffed and lightly used, averaging 15 boarding passengers a day in fiscal 2016.
