History
Ebetsu Station began provisional service on 25 June 1882 and opened as a general station of the government-built Horonai Railway on 13 November 1882, complete with a delta junction and a locomotive shed. It was transferred to the Hokkaido Colliery & Railway in 1889 and nationalised in 1906. A paper-mill spur of about 1 km opened in 1908 to serve the future Oji Paper plant. The line was electrified in August 1968, the station building was rebuilt in concrete in June 1973, and the stop passed to JR Hokkaido and JR Freight on 1 April 1987. Freight handling ended on 1 November 1997, and Kitaca service began on 25 October 2008.
Notes
On 18 August 1954 an imperial train carrying Emperor Shōwa and Empress Kōjun stopped at Ebetsu on the journey from Obihiro to Otaru, and a formal welcome was held in the station forecourt.
