History

Ebara-Nakanobu Station opened on 28 August 1927 as a station of the Ikegami Electric Railway, today's Tokyu Ikegami Line. Its compound name comes from the place name of the time, Nakanobu in Ebara-machi, Ebara District; by one account it also reflects a rivalry with the Meguro-Kamata Electric Railway, which is said to have opened its own Ebara-machi and Nakanobu stations first, prompting Ikegami to prefix "Ebara" to the plain "Nakanobu" it had intended to use. A grade-separation project between Togoshi-Ginza and Hatanodai broke ground on 1 December 1979, and the station was relocated underground on 19 March 1989.

Notes

The 1989 underground switchover used a then-novel technique, the Shifting Track Right Under Method (STRUM), which shifted an active 281-metre section of track down onto the new alignment without needing a parallel temporary alignment; the method was later reused on works including the Tōyoko Line's Daikanyama relocation.
