History

Dōgoyama Station, in Takao, Saijō-chō, Shōbara, Hiroshima Prefecture, opened on 21 November 1936 together with the new Sanshin Line (now the Geibi Line) section between Konuka and Bingo-Ochiai. There had originally been no plan to build a station here, but it was established after an enthusiastic campaign for its construction by local residents and notable figures of Hiba District. The Sanshin Line became part of the Geibi Line in 1937, and this station came under it. Parcel handling ended and the station was unstaffed in 1972, and express trains stopped calling after 1974. It became a JR West station at the division and privatization of JNR in 1987. Situated at an elevation of 611 m, it is the second-highest station on JR West after Mitonohara Station. It is now a remote "secluded station" with a single side platform serving one track.

Notes

It is the second-highest station on JR West after Mitonohara Station, at an elevation of 611 m, and it lies on a topographically unusual drainage divide known as a "valley-floor watershed" (kokuchū bunsui).
