History

Dentetsu-Kurobe Station opened on 5 November 1922 as Nishi-Mikkaichi Station (西三日市駅), a station of the Kurobe Railway — the subsidiary Tōyō Aluminium created to support hydroelectric development on the Kurobe River. The Toyama Electric Railway (now Toyama Chihō Railway) reached the site from Uozu on 1 October 1936, making it a junction. The wartime company consolidation of 1 January 1943 absorbed the Kurobe Railway into Toyama Chihō Railway. The station was renamed Dentetsu-Sakurai (電鉄桜井駅) on 25 June 1951. A branch line to JNR Kurobe was abolished on 17 August 1969. The current name, Dentetsu-Kurobe, was adopted on 1 April 1989 alongside a full interior and exterior renovation.

Notes

Dentetsu-Kurobe is about 1 km from Kurobe Station on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway. It serves as the operational hub of the Toyama Chihō Railway main line, with night-time stabling and many trains beginning or ending their runs here.
