History
Daidō Station opened on 3 December 1900 as an intermediate station when the Sanyo Railway extended its line from Mitajiri (present-day Hōfu) to Asa, handling both passengers and freight from the start. The Sanyo Railway was nationalized in 1906, making the station one of the Imperial Railway Agency, and it came under the Sanyo Main Line with the 1909 line-name designation. The station building was rebuilt in 1952, freight handling ended in 1962, and parcel handling ended in 1984. It passed to JR West at the 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways. In March 2004, prompted by the relocation of Tatara Gakuen High School (present-day Takagawa Gakuen High School), it became an overhead-concourse station, only the second such case in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 39 years since Kudamatsu Station. ICOCA use began in April 2023.
Notes
Becoming an overhead-concourse station was only the second such case in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 39 years since Kudamatsu Station, carried out in 2004 to coincide with the relocation of the nearby Tatara Gakuen High School (present-day Takagawa Gakuen).
