History

Chikuzen-Yamate Station was established on 25 May 1968, when the Japanese National Railways' Sasaguri Line opened between Keisen and Sasaguri, at what is now Ōaza Sasaguri, Sasaguri, Kasuya District, Fukuoka Prefecture. JR Kyushu took over at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and the "SUGOCA" IC card became usable from 1 March 2009. It is an unstaffed station with a single side platform serving one track, situated partway along an elevated line in a mountainous area, and after the Sasaguri Line's electrification it became the only station on the line without passing facilities. It has no elevator or escalator, and reaching the platform from ground level requires climbing or descending an 80-step tower-like staircase.

Notes

Because it sits on an elevated line in the mountains, the station has the distinctive structure of requiring about 80 steps from ground level to the platform; among the related entries, Uzui Station on the Sankō Line in Shimane Prefecture, abolished in 2018, is listed as a station "of similar structure."
